I just spent $ 85. to have my computer repaired after fit caught a virus from a site I had dropped on. Yes I evenhad virus protection but..I got a popup saying I had a virus and my virus protection deleted it and then it came up agian and said did you want to delete it. I did but this time I did using the virus software by mistake unknowingly and it erased my virus protection! NUTS..Not sure why people do this. Guess they have nothing better to do' I can tell you that what with living on a disability check (not what I make being with Entrecard for sure..) or even from my business selling jewelry as is slow too..I'm not sure what blog had the malware on it butf''be careful is all i have to say.
I am disenchanted with Entrecard anyway now especially with the latest action by them of not crediting us for drops from visitors. I think this blows as people can only drop if you take the time to advertise which I do. Mind you I don't pay money for it but i do in time. From now on I willl be rarely visiting Entrecard as quite frankly, I can't afford it!

Sorry that happened to you! I picked up a real bad virus that I suspect came from an Entrecard blog, too, a few months ago. We had to reformat the entire computer. It was a big job!
Oh man what a horrible mess!!! That makes me so mad I could SCREAM!! I don't know why people do that, either, the jerks!
I'm sorry you had to pay $85 for repairs. :( Do you know how to reformat your computer, by the way? You have to be sure to save your photos and documents and etc before you do... but a reformat takes your computer back to its original factory settings, and wipes your hard drive completely clean. I have found it an easier and cheaper alternative to stuff like this.
Thanks for sharing... do you know the site that did this?
If so can you share the name, not the link (obviously) so we can all avoid them!
Also - I'd report it to EC!
Sorry you had this happen.
The code on EntreCard has nothing to do with that malware. Either the blog owner or someone hacked into the blog put the code there. What it does is open up another window that looks like it is downloading some software. It doesn't in reality do anything unless you hit the OK or FIX button on the pop-up window. If you are using Norton or MacAfee they usually don't block or catch this type of malware. AVG or Avast antivirus works much better. After you had mistakenly installed what you thought was an antivirus software you would have been able to easily remove it. My daughter did that to a laptop I let her borrow last year. It took me about 1 hour to get the machine cleaned up again. I highly suggest you use malwarebytes in the future to protect your computer from malware. Malwarebytes is a free program and so are AVG and Avast (I use Avast and love it). Don't go blaming EntreCard when they were not to blame.
thanks guys..no I do not know the site that did this..yes I tried to restore my previous working settings but everything was frozen so couldn't. From now on, I will not visit any sites I do not know which of course makes it bad for newcomers but is what I need to do as this is too expensive for me to keep doing. It, the virus deleted my virus protection and wouldn't even let me go to their web site to reload it!! I am so pissed as not like I am making any money from this as I do this for entertainment and I offer a FREE health, pet, frugal service of tips to consumers on my own time. Wackos out there make it bad for the rest of us decent people.
Excuse me 'Knowledge' but noone is blaming Entrecard but the blog in question in their network. Secondly, you are fortunate to know how to fix it yourself but most people don't. Thirdly, (I use Avast and Lavaware and it erased both when I accidentally let it clean my system of alleged malware as it said it was Windows Protection ..then it asked me for money which I declined and then I realized it deleted my virus protection and could not delete it, the malware.
I just thought you might find this indepth article handy about malware and fake anti-virus software. It has steps you can take to protect your computer. http://tinyurl.com/men237
Actually the malware/virus did not erase anything but blocked your own antivirus software from working. It basically fooled you. Those programs are very nasty unless you know about them. What that malware program does is put blocks up so you can't access regular secure websites. It only allows to access to their site until you pay them the money to "fix" your machine. Then they just remove the blocks and now they have your credit card number. That little scam has been going on for about 3-4 years now. I am really surprised that the main stream media has not reported more about it. I am glad you didn't fall for their scam. The most common fake anti-virus is called antivirus2008 and there are others with variations of that name.
thanks''I found this site, http://www.eradicatespyware.net/fake-antispyware.html that explains what happened to me as } read Windows Security telling me I had virus but in fact was the virus which I ran unwittingly to clean it only to really infect it! ugh.
I had that issue before.. I have to reformat my hard drive just so I can get rid of it.. and there's a lot of website that says it has an entrecard widget but when you visit it says it has been attacked or spam website... and you know, there are websites that want to register and have entrecard but they are being rejected, yet these other websites still have entrecard...
yes Viehl..Entrecard has many sites or blogs on it that have no widget but are accepting ads! Nutty for sure. i report them but..they are still on Entrecard sadly which makes for a very messy, confusing network as when I go to a blog and see their other blogs it says no widget. It is the other lesser expensive blog that I wish to advertise on but obviously can't. i also love it when my ad is rejected and I receive the email saying not accepting ads at this time. I then ask myself why are they here?!
