Hudson River EagleFest
Category : Outdoors
Description : Teatown Lake Reservation will host the Fifth Annual Hudson River EagleFest on Saturday, February 7, from 9am to 4pm. The event will be headquartered at Westchester County’s Croton Point Park, with additional eagle viewing sites located along the Hudson River.
The EagleFest coincides with the annual winter gathering of Bald Eagles in the Lower Hudson Valley and offers participants a chance to observe our national symbol up close in their natural setting. Adults and children attending the EagleFest will learn about the natural history, recent recovery, and habitat needs of eagles through activities led by local experts and environmental conservationists.
EagleFest activities will include:
At Croton Point Park. Heated tents filled with educational displays, collaborator exhibits and children’s activities featuring Bald Eagles and other birds of prey.
Arm-of-the-Sea Theater’s “City that Drinks the Mountain Sky.” A performance of giant puppets and music telling of the formation of the New York City water system, and the on-going story of the watershed, it’s beauty, vulnerability and necessity for ecological health in the Hudson Hills and Highlands. Two shows in the Eagle Theater: 11:15am and 1:45pm. Tickets can be purchased in advance for $5 at 914-762-2912, ext. 110. “Close Encounters with Birds of Prey.” Bill Streeter from the Delaware Valley Raptor Center, will introduce eagles, hawks and owls in an informative and entertaining show. Two shows in the Eagle Theater: 10am and 12:30pm.
Jonathan Kruk, Storyteller. 10:30am and 12:45pm on Eaglet Stage. Free.
“Flight of the Raptor.” Animal expert James Eyring at 3pm. Free.
Eagle Exploration Bus Tour. The tour will begin at the headquarters at Croton Point Park and will visit three eagle viewing sites. The 2-hour tour is geared to adults and teens (12 years and older), and offers the expertise of a naturalist in the comfort of a chartered 36-seat bus. Tour times: 9:30am and 2pm. Tickets must be purchased in advance for $15 at 914-762-2912, ext.110.
Eagle Viewing Sites Along the Hudson River. Individuals and families can visit at no charge three eagle-spotting sites along the Hudson River: (1) Croton-Harmon train station boat ramp; (2) George’s Island Park in Montrose; and (3) Annsville Creek Paddlesport Center in Peekskill. Each site will be staffed by eagle experts with spotting scopes, warming tents and hot chocolate. See www.teatown.org for the listing of additional open education centers, viewing locations and activities.
Each winter between January and March, Bald Eagles from Canada and northern New York and New England fly south to the Lower Hudson Valley to feed on fish and waterfowl found in unfrozen waters. In recent years, more than 100 bald eagles have been counted along the Westchester and Putnam portions of the Hudson River and nearby reservoirs. The annual return of the Bald Eagle to the Hudson Hills and Highlands region is a celebrated occasion for local bird lovers as well as environmentalists because it represents the success of a broad-based environmental effort to rescue the Bald Eagle, our national symbol, from near extinction. Every year the eagles’ return affirms the continued health of the Hudson River and nearby habitats for birds, fish, plants and people – and a reminder that people working together can make a difference!
In the event of severe weather, the alternate date for the EagleFest will be Sunday, February 8. Please check Teatown’s website — www.teatown.org — for program details and weather updates, or call Teatown at (914) 762-2912, ext. 110.

Come get LOST with me tonight won't you?
Now that is what I call one good looking man!
PREMIERE! Yeh, the new episode of LOST will be on tonight and I don't know about you but you wil find me ofcourse, sitting in my chair with some goodies and a drink watching it with my pets! Did someone say SAwyer?! Yummy!!
I'm FREEZING! It's really cold in here. Oh! NO worries mate. It's just me having my thermostat at 57 degrees because I can't afford to pay the propane bill! Ugh! I am using a space heater taht keeps konking out as blows the fuse here..nice huh?! YEh my place is heated primarily with propane and it cost $3.20 a gallon and it runs me $320. for a 100 gallon tank they fill every three weeks! I received a HEAP grant 2x already and can not expect anymore money from them. I already have an outstanding electric bill of almost $400 that DOH or department of HEalth, is going to pay, as I have a disability subsidy of $160 a monh, they didn't pay since October..and I got a shutoff notice from my utiity company I need to deal with quickly.. which leaves me with like $100 towards next month's bill. I will have to pay like 144 of it as it also includes about $44. in electric. Am sure you are saying to yourself, why don't she get off her ARSS and get a job like you?! Well like I said I am disabled, completely and I have tried to find a job as I applied at Peebles,Walmart and a few other places and I do try to sell my hand made jewelry but..times are hard and noone is buying it but they can afford to get drunk on the beer they buy and are getting cancer from the cigarettes they are smoking so go figure! Maybe a chakra bracelet with healing properties off the stones is what they and what we all need right about now huh?!?!? NO joke I am wearing them all over my body,lol..It does help some.
I sure hope Obama will help with some of this. But..I don't really think so as the expectation on him is so high already, that he can't help but disappoint us. But..f he gets us out of Afghanistan,Iraq, settles the dispute in the Mideast, helps in Darfur and Tibet, makes health care and education FREE for us all, especially helping our veterans who have served and protected us in the wars, continues to protect us from terrorists, develolps sustainable energy sources to eliminate our dependence on foreign oil, preserves our environment, stabilizes our economy by controlling the bailout monies from now on,helps the average joe and Jane from losing THEIR homes and jobs and businesses, then...I think he has earned his salt as president and we can be more than satisfied with our choice! Damn, that was a mouthful!! lol...(laughing manically,at this point!)
WAtching SAwyer should heat me up some tho but that aint FREE either! It costs me $57 a month for cable, as Midhudson Cable has a monopoly on this area, and I don't have a clue on how to hook up the converter box I bought for about $10,to save money and get rid of the cable, after the coupon of $40, do you??!?!

Obama is now our president!
I got goose bumps watching the inauguration of Obama as our president today! didn't you??! Especially looking at the throngs of people braving the cold to get a glimpse of history!
Yeh is all I can say! I was a bit disappointed tho by a couple of things like Aretha Franklin for one. She sounded awful and couldn't seem to hit the high notes. Obama's speech was a bit flat to me also. I also didn't like what Michelle was wearing. It looked dowdy, sorry! And the poem..well she aint no Maya Angelou is she?!
(totally unrelated but, I love and feed the birds as I live near a park so..)this is what greeted me this morning! Yes it is a piliated woodpecker. isn't he lovely?!??

Some Good "Green" WAys to Save US All Some $!!
Contrary to popular belief, "greening" or going Organic, doesn't have to cost you a lot of money. In fact, if you think of it's benefits, both on your health and our environment, going "Green' is the wiser choice and is more cost effective. The healthier you are , the less you and yours, need to visit the doctor for one, take medicines and you feel better too!
Well..I just bought another vaporizer by Kaz. Yeah the same company that is leaving my locale to outsource in Mexico as is cheaper to produce there than here with the coolie wages they pay there. It is costing Columbia County's residents 400 jobs. What they fail to realize is the cost of shipping to the USA when we could be producing here. This is something Governor Patterson wants to do, by promoting production here in the states.
I was inspired by his inaugural speech last week. Of course his critics think it is a tall order he is proposing and that it lacks specific details on how he intends to accomplish his "Green" initiative for one. He thinks that the upstate region would be ideal for developing alternative fuels and wants to support the car industry, that effects us all, by creating hybrid cars. Patterson says it will create "Green" jobs if we all go green. I agree! Also, at least he like Obama, has some ideas which is better than their opponents who can only criticize and use their tired plans that don't work. As we all know the Middle East is very unstable and we need to stop depending on them for our primary source of fuel. Also, with the coal spill recently, I think it is safe to say that this is not a good fuel either! More

New cat is sick! ugh..
"cat want new toy" by, Mary Lou from TimetoCre8 on blogspot.
He has a bloody stool. Read more here.
Don't forget to check out the new movie "hotel for Dogs" coming to your local theatere near you on January 16th. Looks like a winner! Is about a couple of kids who can't have a pet of their own so they find an abandoned house and convert it into a pet rescue and go around saving pets throughout the city. Kind of like my life and what I have been doing for years,lol..For pet tips and products try Doctors Foster and Smith. Did you know that the reason cats scratch the furniture is not only because it is instinctual and feels good but because they mark their territory when they shed their claws as their body oils come out on the fabric?! Pretty wild huh?!!?!? What can you do? Well..in my case I just bought a new mattress and I tried putting a scratchy post next to it and it does help some but not always so..today I will spray it to eliminate their scents, as I have 3 offenders out of my 4 cats..Yes I will use Febreeze, as the fabric is getting ruined, ugh!
Oh. Also for your entertainment pleasure, is "Mama's Boys", on tonight, about a few guys looking for the love of their lives and some women dumb enough to be the object of their affections. I wrote a review here and you can see a clip of this here. And don't forget to watch the dance competition from around the world here. I also enjoy watching " the BAchelor" which premieres tonight too! Same guy that got rejected by the "bachelorette" last year. Later gaters!

Went shopping this weekend!
Cool ice sculpture from winter festival...
Yeh...Despite the recession, I saw a lot of people at the new mall in Westchester, NY on the Bronx border, in Mt. Vernon. Many were flocking to the sales and regularly discounted items at stores like T J Maxx and Petco. I even joined the Pet pals club to save on food and toys and other necessities for my pets. I am glad that one can go to this mall in like 5 minutes from New Rochelle. Before this, we really didn't have any place to shop but dollar stores so we had to drive or hop on a bus or train to White Plains. This is so much more convenient, however; it was a pain leaving with the traffic as there is now urban sprawl! ugh! I still had a very nice time and day in general as my mom went back home after visiting for the holidays so I went down to my old stomping grounds where she lives, to return her!
I bought a nice pair of shoes for like $ 35, some socks, coffee from Hawaii, tea from London etc. I also went to a thrift store and bought some pet training books and some curtains for my new house. I would say that in this economy, these are the kind of places that are doing well..Yes, thrift stores and consignment shops and Walmart,Peter Harris and TJ Maxx, who sell designer clothes for less and Petco and Petsmart, where you can really save on pet supplies and even groom your pet while you are there. And yes.. they are pet friendly so by all means, bring Fido along!

Google Gift for 2009!
Ugh! They, yes Google..lowered my Page Rank down to a 1 from a 2! I guess I should be grateful it wasn't a 0 huh?! How about you?! How is your page rank?! My Alexa rank is better though..Is now about 400,000. Was at one point, 1 million, before I joined entrecard for social marketing and increasing my traffic to my blog! Linkreferral, an affilia marketing site, was who i used before and i never made one sale and only met other webmasters and online business owners there in the same boat as me! Who needs that!? I am also with easyhits4u but I don't notice any improvement with them. I go to different sites there daily too and supposedly they say I am getting traffic back but I find few people visit me from there or blogupp, another traffic inducing site! Again, for that, as I have written on before in my posts and on countless blogs and forums on the net, your best bet for increasing your traffic is to trade links with other sites and blogs you respect and frequent and post on the forums and these sites and blogs. Remember guys to ask these places and their webmasters to backlink to your page! Also please use keywords and Stumble anything you write on the web! Oh and don't forget to PING your blog so people know when you update it!
What we all need more than just aimless traffic and entrecard droppers who stay but 5 secs and go on to the next blog for nothing more than to do their dropping quota, so they are in the topspots on Entrecard for advertising purposes..(man that was a mouthful!), but anyway...What we really need is loyal readers who backlink to our blogs and buy our art in my case and jewelry and use our services, in my case pet tips as I am a pet pro and health advice as I am an alternative health practitioner. Here's to your Health and Wealth this New Year, everybody!
