Now What!?
spam deleted. Thanks!
'here's to your health!'
In the face of so much neglect and ruin, one can't help but ask oneself the question, 'What Now!?" Where do we go from here? Granted the Catskills, upstate NY and other similar rural areas, will never be the same. Gone is manufactring here in the US. The glory of GM is but a distant memory. Many have replaced lunch boxes off to work with food stamps.
The Catskills, once were the in plce to come for entertainment. people came up from the city to watch entertainers and stay at the many resorts. Now they have many other options what with planes, like Florida. It is time to rethink and look outside the proverbial box for answers. How can we bring jobs and people back to these abandoned areas?
In a shakey economy, entrepreneurs have cropped up all over fending for themselves with little to no faith in their government or it's officials. While it is good to be self reliant, we are social creatures and we do best together rather than every man for himself paddling in a different direction in his own boat. Geese flying on each other's draft is a prime example of this at it's finest. The casino in Schenectady hopefully will bring jobs to that troubled, crime-ridden region.
It is my wish that the casino will hire locals rather than outsiders as did Atlantic city making the area worse, not better. It is expected that many will flock there at a chance at winning at their many tables and slots. A new train station is in the works to bring them even, besides by bus and car already. It even has it's own exit ramp built off the highway! The casino is one strategy already implemented to combat the depression that has hit this region. Let's hope it has a ripple effect and impacts the area for the better and other businesses follow suit reinvesting in uptate NY and rural America again in general.
