Tips on Coping with a mild TBI

spam deleted. Thanks! 'here's to your health!'

As have shared in past, I live with the after effects of a head injury from a car accident several years ago. With it, has come emotional challenges as well.  I have at times feelings of fear being out with this. Also get frustrated when making decisions. Feel sad as there are limitations on how much can do in a day, how quickly do them and so on. Also get stressed as live with service dog and cope with this mostly on own.

I found an article on a web site on daily coping tips for persons living with this as well for care givers who care for us so understand us better. Here's the link http://braininjuryeducation.org/Treatment/Compensatory-Strategies/  I just want to say to those of you out there, I find doing something daily helpful. Ex. am off to see my therapist today speak to her about how am doing.

Many people are dealing with concussions and it is in the news now, especially with returning service men coming back with brain injuries and the movie 'Concussion' bringing to light sports injuries. Anything that can help people get better and accept their condition and have some sort of a life is good.

One is not as was. I just make lemonade from lemons given. Take care.

Staying in room in Albany with my service dog....

spam deleted. Thanks! 'here's to your health!'

For $920. a month with all included.

Was in homeless shelter for two months prior as lost my housing. Friend had cats we share and then moved. In veteran's home, dropped them with me, landlord saw one, next was getting 30 day notice.Got very overwhelmed with all the changes. Am back on meds so doing better. Been looking six months for decent, affordable housing in Albany area in safe neighborhood. Am on disability so can't look for anything higher than $600,1 BR with closets so can get rid of storage locker, paying $65. a month on. I have service dog and a couple of E.A. cats that make it hard. They currently are in a rescue group being fostered.

Just got back in TBI program, as have head injury so hoping they can help get me a place, with my animals, get housing subsidy back.

No, I don't NEED Medication!

Spam, self promotion like links to your web sites deleted. Thanks!

Best friend said I need to be on psychotrophic drugs or can't live together. Best don't live together as too close for comfort and we have too many pets together. Letr there be space in our togetherness. We chat on phone daily and visit monthly so is enough. We save nothing shacking up too as both have housing subsidies so pay a third of rent, about 725 total.

As for the medicine, he needs to keep focus on self, not me as am ok off it. Don't like the side effects either. If have bipolar or are borderline, have a head injury or whatever, maybe au naturalle is for you too. See link here for alternative remedies to help your psyche.

I see new psychologist today. Last one was ok with me off drugs. My doctor's opinion counts most. What you think?

March is Brain Injury Awareness Month..

While I appreciate your comments to my posts, I would ask firstly that they pertain to topic and are not spam in nature. Thanks!

All can say is wear your helmet if riding bike. Also before talking about someone with a mental disability within ear shot of them that you are being rude and would you want the same treatment about your shortcomings?! Yes we all have them. Remember you too can get this injury. Also 1 in 4 people will have a mental illness at some point in their lives. ex. a death of a parent and one gets very down leading to depression beyond the average grief process,if there is such a thing. Remember people with mental challenges whether it be ADD,autism, mental illness, head injury, brain tumor, brain aneurism, etc. deserve the same respect you would give someone with physical illness because it is. Many with mental illness are so because of chemical imbalance in brain making them depressed. When down don't want to do                                                                                                                                                                                                                                    much.
